Larry Schulties - Head Engineer

From racing in the Baja 1,000 to his time in the service, Larry Schulties has lived a life full of adventure and exploration. At a young age, Larry knew he wanted to be an engineer, and after studying at the University of Denver he did just that. He submitted for a JPL patent for a planting process used on the vector helium magnetometer used in the Pioneer interplanetary missions for NASA, and has had a hand in many projects with JPL that have pushed the envelope of technology. In his free time, you can find Larry working in the garden, on his motorhome, or on his wife's honey-do list. His experience and expertise in the field of engineering alongside his love for being outdoors made him a perfect fit for Zamp Solar.

Tony Kutzen - Quality Control & Compliance

Tony Kutzen - Quality Control & Compliance

Tony joined the Zamp Solar family early, coming on as the first full time employee. He brought a love for the outdoors and a positive attitude that never quits. Growing up, Tony was shown the world of birding by one of his uncles and instantly fell in love. At the age of 17 he began leading birding tours for the Audubon of California and has never stopped. He is now a nationally recognized birder known for his owl prowess and birding by ear. To detect the subtle differences in call that distinguishes one bird from the other requires great attention to detail. Tony’s strength in attention to detail is used every day at Zamp through his role as the quality control and compliance manager, always ensuring our products are the best they can be.

Ryan Massey - Tech Shop Lead

Ryan Massey - Tech Shop Lead

Setting the world record for the youngest set of twins to circle the world at nine days old, Ryan Massey has always felt a connection to the world and a need to make it better. Travel has always a part of Ryan’s life, visiting all seven continents before the age of thirty.  When he graduated high school he knew he wanted to do something that would better the world around him and received his Bachelor's degree from The Rhode Island School of Design in sculpture.

After working at a kids camp, Ryan fell in love with teaching and helping prepare the younger generation, so he returned to school and received his masters in teaching from Northern Arizona. He began teaching anthropology and art to troubled youth. When he decided to make a career change he got a job working at a ski lift on Mount Bachelor where he could clock in and out without much thought. There he saw a sign for the lift stating it was powered by wind, which got him interested in sustainable energy. He soon got a job at Zamp Solar. With no experience, but a heart to learn and a passion for product, he quickly gained knowledge and experience. He is now the tech shop lead, working hands on with the product while also working with customers on technical support calls. Ryan’s dedication to making the world a better place also extends to his home, a 10-acre organic farm. In additional to sustainable farming practices, his farm also provides a home for retired therapy horses, injured animalsand rescued feral dogs.

Steve Nelson - CEO

Steve Nelson - CEO

Steve has always been filled with an entrepreneurial spirit. Owning his first business at the age of 28, in California, he built it up and then sold it eight years later. After selling the business, he and his family left California and moved to Bend, Oregon. In Bend they found something they could not have found in California, fresh air. Bend provided them with a place filled with outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, kayaking, and camping. Steve was willing to try anything outdoorsy, including mountain biking and hang gliding.  After dabbling in a few other businesses he found an opportunity to marry a few of his favorite things; owning a business and enjoying time outdoors.
