Dometic PLB40 Zamp Solar Portable Charger

Perfect for tight storage spaces in vans and Overlanding trailers and for ultimate versatility, the OBSIDIAN® SERIES portable kits are low profile, robust, & lightweight.  The OBSIDIAN® SERIES portable kits are 50% slimmer than our Legacy Series Portable Kits.  OBSIDIAN® SERIES Portable Kits feature an integrated carry case that doubles as a quick-deploy adjustable stand.  The slim anodized aluminum carry handle makes handling a breeze.   The Tactical Carry Case utilizes an integrated storage bag to hold all the necessities, and the case lays flat to maximize storage potential.

This 45-watt portable panel is perfect for small power applications or adding additional power on the fly to existing applications from small RVs, Vans, and over-the-cab truck campers. Weighing just 12.5 pounds, this panel produces an ample power-to-weight/size ratio.

This unregulated portable kit does not include a charge controller.  This kit is ideal for adding to existing portable kits with a charge controller or solar systems that already integrate/use a charge controller.  Do not tie an unregulated portable system directly into a power system without using a charge controller.

Perfect Dometic PLB40 Solar Charger

I have a Dometic CFX3 35 cooler and power it using the PLB40. Most of the time, I charge using my 12v adapter in the back of the truck. Since I live in California, I do get quite a bit of sun during the day, so when I am parked at a spot for more than a day, I throw my panel out and try to get as much charge as possible. I typically get about 10 to 15 amp hours of charge with the 45-watt panel per day. That is about 25% of the PLB40 capacity, so it definitely makes me feel at ease when deciding to pack up versus stay another night.

Correcting my earlier review

While the 45W panel is a show charger, my goal was to power a Dometic CFX3-45 cooler. Gerald in customer service helped me understand the real situation, which is the 45W panel doesn’t have the amperage to power this cooler. It may be ok for lighter usage. In my defense, the pictures in the product description on this web page shows a panel with the PLB40 battery and a CFX3 cooler so it’s reasonable to assume this panel can handle that task. Rating it for what it is, it’s fine. Just be aware it’s a slow charge and it won’t work if the draw on the battery exceeds its amperage.
